Verifind FAQ
This is a list of the Frequently Asked Questions about Verifind and our GPS Tracking services.
VeriFind has many unique user advantages. The top three are:
- Price: at 99¢ per day inclusive of hardware supply, web access and unlimited locates, our pricing is (as far as we know) unbeatable.
- Reliability: Our GPS Tracking System is manufactured by the world’s largest GPS manufacturer (Trimble) and our software is developed,
hosted and managed locally in New Zealand, ensuring only the highest quality service delivery.
- Efficiency: Only our GPS Tracker can limit reporting to movement - this application is patented.
Instead of having to choose (and therefore pay for) constant tracking where positions are reported even
if the Locator is stationary, with VeriFind you have the option of only receiving reports whilst the target
is on the move. This translates to potentially large savings in data usage (and therefore lower cost to you).
In most cases to within approximately 5 meters of the GPS Tracker’s last "open sky" reading
This is dependent on the reporting frequency chosen, which is set by the user and can range from once per week to every 22 seconds.
On demand polling can provide even closer to real time results with only a few seconds time delay from polling to reporting.
The last "open sky" position will always be what is reported, so if the GPS Tracker is underground or undercover,
the position that is reported will be the one for just outside the entrance of the building or cover where the locator has
disappeared into. For most applications, this is sufficient to locate the target accurately.
If any of the following apply, then the polled location reading of your target may not be accurate:
- If the GPS Tracker is outside of the GSM network coverage area
- If the GPS Tracker's antenna has metal obstructing more than 70% of its view of the sky for a prolonged traveling distance (such as with a bad vehicle installation)
- If the GPS Tracker both loses external power and the internal battery power runs out (it is recommended to configure the GPS Tracker to send a “Hail Mary” report should battery levels reach critical level)
- If the GPS Tracker or SIM card is faulty, not configured correctly or is not connected to or able to communicate over the Vodafone network
If the US Military blocks access the civilian population from accessing the GPS satellites
For individuals, so long as you can prove that you are a New Zealand resident, are over 18 years of age, are in full time
employment (or have a guarantor who is in full time employment) and have a clean or near clean credit rating with Baycorp,
then you will likely qualify.
Alternatively, there are short term rental and outright purchase options which are not subject to credit criteria. To view these click here.
VeriFind operates a free 24/7 emergency helpline as part of its service. A live operator will advise you where your target is if it is lost or
stolen and you are not in a position to get on the internet. Simply phone 0800 837434.
This is an optional extra that can be configured at time of installation. VeriFind recommends however that unless these
features are essential to your needs that you do not request them as by adding this functionality the covertness of the installation
will be impaired.
If the GPS Tracker is used as a GPS Tracker only, it becomes almost untraceable for thieves. If the device is connected
to horns, door locks, ignition wires, starter wires, etc, a thief may find and disconnect the unit simply by tracing wires,
rendering it of little use.
Geofencing is a setting online which notifies you by SMS txt and/or email if your target leaves (or enters) a predefined area.
This can be extremely useful for monitoring and surveillance.
While a GPS enabled mobile will provide tracking capability you will need to consider the following -
High availability
- A Vehicle tracking system is always on. No Charging required, No flat Battery's.How do you keep a phone charged?
- Ruggedised. Will the mobile phone withstand Heat, cold, high humidty, vibrations, etc
Most Mobile phones are not designed to operate in these conditions.
- Unlike a mobile phone the GSM and GPS can not be turned off manually to stop tracking.
- How do you track a stolen asset if a mobile phone is with a person and not the asset?
Covert placement
- Will a covertly installed phone still be able to receive GPS and GSM signals.
A Vehicle GPS tracking unit is optimised to work when covertly installed.
- Can an external antenna be covertly attached for better reception within a vehicle?
Fleet tracking
- Will the tracking software allow you to track mulptple units?
- Will your reporting requirements be met?
Privacy Laws
- Do you know what your legal rights are if tracking via peoples phones?
